New Looped Walks for Walkers in Tinahely

There are three new looped (off road) walks which have been put forward by Tinahely Walkers Welcome which have subsequently been approved by Failte Ireland. The three new walks extend to a total of 31KM and together with the Wicklow Way, The Railway Walk and Tomnafinnoge Wood wil provide a platform to promote Tinahely as a location for walking holidays in 2010. The Wicklow Hostel is located along the Wicklow Way and is already part of a Looped Walk aka Moyne Loop. We will soon be hosting a walking trail and map guide on our Website www.wicklowhostel.ie for all you avid walkers.

Walk 1 is a road walkm Walk 2 & 3 loop the Wicklow Way with nearby roads and all 3 start and finish in the Square in Tinahely.

Walk 1: 3.8KM Tinahely LoopFrom the town square, continue up Kelly’s Hill through Ballinacor and turn right at the church. Continue down Long Hill, turn right at Coogan’s Hardware and follow the road back to the Square.

Walk 2: 8.8KM Mangans Lane – Wicklow Way- Hacketstown Road Loop
From the town square, continue up Kelly’s Hill and turn left up Mangan’s Lane onto the Wicklow Way. Pass through Mangans and Coolafunshoge. Leave the Wicklow Way at the Forn and turn left onto the R747 back to Tinahely.

Walk 3 19.8 KM. Mangan Lane – Wicklow Way – Newtown Railway Walk
Same as above, at the Ford continue on Wicklow Way through Curravanish and Farneese. At Muskeagh cross leave the Wicklow Way turning left into Newtown and Ballyrahan. At the 1798 monument, cross the R749 towards Greenhall. At Tomnafinnogue Wood, turn right onto the Railway Walk. Exit the Railway Walk at Kilcommon Bridge and continue back to Tinahely via Churchland. [ Alternative Route - Join the Wicklow Way at Curravanish via R747 - Loop 15.3 KM]

Walk 4 & 5 Loop the Wicklow Way through Farneese and Stranakelly with nearby roads and Walk 6 Loops the Railway Walk with Gorteen Road

Walk 4 6.3KM
Crossbridge- Farneese- Muskeagh- Raheenteige Loop: Start at Crossbridge Church and continue up Cuckoo Lane behind the bungalow which is opposite the school. Join the Wicklow Way at the marked junction on the right, Continue through Farneese. When you reach the crossroads, turn right onto tarred road. At the T junction, turn right and right again to bring you back to your starting point.

Walk 5 7.3KM
The Cow Loop (Stranakelly-Ballyrahan-Newtown)
Join the Wicklow Way at Strankelly Crossroads (The Dying Cow Pub). Continue towards Mullinacuff and leave the Wicklow Way at Muskeagh Cross. Continue through Newtown and Ballyrahan. At the R749 junction turn right and take the next right again Pass straight through the next junction and take next right to bring you back to your start point.

Walk 6 <7.7KM&lt
Railway-Gorteen-Mountpleasant Loop: Start at the Railway Walk Carpark. Continue along the Railway towards Tomnifinnogue. Exit at Tomnafinnogue Carpark and turn right over Greenhall bridge. Take the first right and next left and cross the main road, continuing towards Gorteen. Take second left towards Mountapleasant to bring you back to the Railway Walk Carpark.

Walk 7, 8 & 9 loop the Wicklow Way through Moyne and Ballycumber with nearby roads.

Walk 7 2.9KM Wicklow Way- Moyne Loop (The Wicklow Hostel is here)
Join the Wicklow Way at Sandyford Cross (opposite the Holy Well). At the tope of the grass track, turn left onto the tarred road towards Moyne. Turn left again past Moyne Church and the Wicklow Hostel and back to the starting point.

Walk 8 5.6KM Wicklow Way – Ballycumber Lane Loop: Start at Ballycumber forest and follow narrow Ballycumber lane along the Wicklow Way. Continue on over the bridge. Leave the Wicklow Way and turn left at the T junction at Ballinglen Road (Wicklow Hostel at top of this road). Continue back to the Wicklow Way sign and turn left over Sandyford Bridge and back to the starting point.

Walk 9 15.9Km Wicklow Way- Ford-Coolafunshoge-Mangans-Ballycumber-Kyle-Mullins Loop: Join the Wicklow Way at the Ford at Coolafunshoge and follow the Wicklow Way through Coolafunshoge, Mangans and Ballycumber. Pass the Old Schoolhouse at Ballycumber and continue on the Wicklow Way and continue straight up Kyle Road to T junction. Turn left for Tinahely. At the junction with the R747 keep left and arrive back to the Coolafunshoge Ford on the left.
